Giving Desolation a Voice

In the summer of 2012 I made landfall in Las Vegas – the place that was to be my new home and the beginning of my new journey. But I get ahead of myself because at the time I just thought that I was on vacation.

On this trip I happened upon a young man, Andrew Forsthoefel, who’d recently graduated college and unlike many of his peers decided that he had a few things he had to accomplish before setting further into his post graduate life. His idea of fun for the summer? Walking across the US.

Yes. Walking.

His trajectory bent through the Silver State as I was in town on my inaugural journey and we found a few minutes to talk about the desolation I’d found merely blocks from the luxury high-rise in which both of us were staying (and in which I’d become a resident a handful of months later).
